Coaching
Structure
An effective coaching regime has to cater for all age groups and competence levels, so the pupil is always playing in an environment that is both comfortable and challenging.
In our programme we have groups from entry level to county/elite level but are constantly re-assessing players and promoting them to the next group as soon as is appropriate.
Groups
All groups are mixed (boys & girls) and are set by age/competence level. The starter groups are on Saturday mornings, and these feed into the after-school groups:
- Development
- Performance
- Elite
See Coaching Timetable for details of days/times/prices.
Mini-Squash
Mini-squash is designed for young players, typically between 5 and 8/9 years old. For the youngest players the focus is on movement, ball skills and basic racket skills. There is a range of rackets and balls to make it as easy as possible for youngsters to get started and having fun.
There is a progression path from fundation, through improver to pro.
Development
In this group players start to develop technique and learn basic tactics. They become skilled in playing longer rallies and gradually improve their court positioning, movement and observation skills.
Typically these players are between 9 and 13 years and would be striving to get into the county squad within their age group.
Performance
This group is for players who are either team or squad members. They are grouped according to age and ability and undertake drills to further refine technique within a comprehensive repertoire of shots.
They play conditioned rallies to improve aspects of their game that need attention and also against players in a higher age group to stretch their horizons.
Elite
This comprises those who have played at county level for some years and have developed into well-rounded and skillful players and demonstrate excellent technique and match winning tactics.
Typically these players would be in the 15+ age group.
